The metropolitan council approved on June 8th the continuation of the future tram line 5 project. This is an important decision that brings the Paillon valley a step closer to having a direct connection with the heart of Nice.

Fifteen stations that will change daily life

On a map, this represents 7.6 kilometers. In daily life, it could mean less time stuck in traffic, less reliance on cars, and easier commuting for thousands of residents. The future line will start from the Palais des Expositions before heading up towards Ariane, La Trinité, and then Drap. In total, fifteen stations will line the route.

The Metropolis estimates that nearly 47,000 residents and over 13,000 jobs will be directly affected by this new service. With a tram expected every eight minutes and a complete journey of about twenty-five minutes, the project clearly aims to become a credible alternative to driving along this particularly busy route.

A construction project lasting until 2031

The vote adopted this week now allows the Metropolis to start acquiring the necessary land for the launch of the works. The timeline targets the start of construction by the end of 2026. The work will take place in phases, beginning with the Ariane North area, then moving on to La Trinité and Drap. The terminus will be located in the heart of the village and will be accompanied by a 350-space parking lot aimed at facilitating intermodality.

If everything goes as planned, the first travelers could hop on board in 2031! Patience...
