A story between a dance hall and an art gallery

It all starts in the 1920s, when Paul and Baptistine Roux, affectionately known as Titine, turn their café-bar into a dance hall with a dance floor. Before long, they add three rooms to welcome travelers… and artists. Here, painters like Braque, Chagall, Modigliani, and Léger would swap their art for a meal or a few nights’ stay. After the war, the magic continues: Yves Montand, Simone Signoret, and Orson Welles become regulars.

Even today, the Roux family watches over this gem, offering its visitors a unique immersion in art and Provence.

Sleep in the heart of an open-air gallery

At La Colombe d’Or, every corner tells a story. The pool adorned with blue-green mosaics is dominated by a Calder mobile, the patio reveals a bas-relief signed by Fernand Léger, and the walls of the dining room are dressed with invaluable masterpieces. Here, there’s no spa or shop. Luxury resides in authenticity and cultural richness.

The 13 rooms and 12 apartments of the hotel, all infused with Provençal charm, have welcomed icons of the 20th century. And if you just prefer to enjoy dinner, the homemade traditional cuisine is an experience to savor under the watchful gaze of masterful artworks.

In the rest of the ranking, you’ll also find Les Roches Blanches in Cassis, Le Grand Hôtel in Cabourg, Le Ritz in Paris, and the Hôtel Le Corbusier in Marseille. What a fabulous to-do list!
