A Stylish Railway Comeback
Great news for train lovers and fans of the dolce vita: from July 4 to August 30, 2025, a night train called Espresso Riviera will run every weekend between Marseille and Rome (via Nice, of course). Say goodbye to the loss of the Paris-Venice route; this new service, operated by FS Treni Turistici Italiani (the tourist branch of Trenitalia), promises a retro-chic journey between the City of Angels of the French Riviera and the Italian capital. Onboard, enjoy the comfort of those grand old trains with sleeping cars, cozy bunks, and a warm, inviting atmosphere.

A budget-friendly slow travel getaway
Starting from €24.90, you can set off on an adventure without breaking the bank. The train will leave every Friday evening from Rome at 7:57 PM and will arrive in Marseille on Saturday at 1:57 PM. The return is scheduled for Saturday at 2:46 PM, reaching Rome on Sunday at 6:48 AM. This journey through the Côte d’Azur and the Ligurian Riviera offers a delightful alternative to the stress of flying. The idea? Enjoy the trip as much as the destination, with stunning Mediterranean landscapes as your backdrop.
Comfort, local cuisine, and retro vibes
L’Espresso Riviera focuses on the experience. Onboard restaurant car with local specialties, convertible compartments to switch from night mode to lounge mode, and even space for bikes and canoes! It’s not just a train, it’s a bubble of comfort on rails. After a first experimental version between Nice and Milan in 2024, this expanded version to Rome and Marseille confirms that rail tourism is making a wonderful comeback. Reservations open on May 24 at fstrenituristici.it and with Trenitalia.
