Petanque is taking over the heart of Nice with an international tournament! Organized by the Cercle artistique et sportif des eaux (CASE), this 9th edition promises to turn Place Masséna and the Promenade des Anglais into true temples of shooting and pointing. With 1500 players expected, the weekend is set to be as heated as a petanque court in the middle of August.
From August 1st to 3rd, amateurs and pros will face off in a competitive yet festive atmosphere. No need to be a world champion, but you will need a FFPJP license (or from an affiliated federation) to participate. It’s a perfect opportunity to watch some big names compete while sipping a mint Perrier in the shade of the palm trees.
Outdoor petanque courts and an electrifying atmosphere
The tournament will take place on petanque courts specially set up on the Promenade des Anglais and the my...theplace Masséna. The Carré d’honneur, on the other hand, will stand proudly right in the city center, turning Nice into the world capital of pétanque for one weekend. Here, we play with both precision and flair.
The program looks packed but perfectly tuned to thrill both players and spectators. On Friday, August 1st, license registrations will take place from 9 AM to 8 PM, with an opening evening starting at 5 PM to warm up the gravel... and the minds.
On Saturday, it's competition time
Starting Saturday, August 2nd, things will get serious with the qualifying rounds. The triplets will line up, and the boules will fly in an atmosphere worthy of the grandest sports arenas in the South. Whether you're a shooter or a pointer, every millimeter will count.
Sunday, August 3rd, will shine the spotlight on young talents with the National Youth Grand Prix. Minors, cadets, and juniors will come to show that the next generation is ready to take control of the jack. A whirlwind of talent, strategy, and excitement awaits!
and a lovely Mediterranean cheerfulness.
Night Finals and Tempting Prizes
Sunday will wrap up with the grand finals, both for women and men. The elite of pétanque will gather in an electric atmosphere to vie for the most coveted titles of the event. The awards ceremony is scheduled for 10:30 PM, promising to be a memorable occasion.
The prizes are quite attractive: 6,770 euros for the winning men's team and 1,890 euros for the victorious women's trio. For those interested, registration is available online for 45 euros per team at www.petanquefrancaise.com. A wonderful way to mix competition, vacation, and dolce vita.
