Every year, it’s the same: the palm trees become spectators, Place Masséna transforms into an open-air theater, and the whole city seems to say it’s time to hit pause on your daily routine. And for 2026, Nice has chosen to pay tribute to a figure that is as symbolic as it is inspiring: the Queen. A reimagined, fantasized, sometimes irreverent, always spectacular Queen. For nearly three weeks, monumental floats, troops from all over the world, dancers, musicians, and street performers will parade in an atmosphere that is both popular, family-friendly, and downright euphoric, because even if you know the Carnival by heart, you can still get swept away!
A Grand Opening
It all begins on February 11 with the Grand Charivari, a special moment where the Carnival unveils itself a little early. No bleachers, no barriers: just the street, the celebration, and costumes highly recommended (or even essential).
Two days later, the scene changes with the Bal Veglione, organized at the Nice Opera. An evening that plays with contrasts, featuring a concert by the Philharmonic Orchestra followed by a more contemporary vibe. And then, on February 14, the city REALLY comes alive. The Carnavalina glides through the heart of Nice in a grand, free parade. Then, as night falls, the illuminated opening parade will set Masséna Square ablaze.

Giant characters, flowers galore, and magic in the air
In the following days, the Carnival sets its rhythm: the illuminated carnival parades, organized during the evenings on several dates, will transform the city into a living fresco where everything sparkles, moves, and comes alive. During the day, the carnival parade on February 22 offers a gentler version, perfect for families. Even the adults can’t help but feel like kids again (no one’s complaining, right? Hehe). And then there are the Flower Battles: UNMISSABLE! If you don’t know, essentially, these are floats completely covered with floral arrangements that move slowly while costumed performers throw a shower of flowers to the audience. It smells wonderful, looks beautiful, and is an absolute must-experience!

And how to forget the Carnival Village
Located on the Promenade du Paillon, it's the perfect meeting spot. Free and open every day, you can grab a bite there, enjoy various activities, or simply soak in the carnival atmosphere without being in the crowd (it’s nice to take a breather!). And we can’t forget to mention Lou Queernaval on February 27, the first gay carnival in France. An event deeply rooted in Nice's DNA, festive, inclusive, and joyful, where batucadas, drag queens, and local artists come together to celebrate sharing and the freedom to be yourself.
