Who hasn’t dreamed, at some point, of stumbling upon a time machine to explore all the fascinating periods of History? While we may not be living in a science fiction movie with a DeLorean under our arms, we invite you to take a trip to Cités Immersives Nice for a quick journey more than 1000 years back, all without leaving the Promenade des Anglais. And just a heads up, once you’re there, the program promises to be quite enriching.

A New Cultural Hotspot on the Horizon

First established in Rouen, then in the capital, and now itinerantly at Carré Sénart, the Cités Immersives project is making its way to the Côte d’Azur. Behind this concept lies a simple observation: History is often too inaccessible to the general public. To change that, Jean Vergès and Anthony Samama decided in 2023 to establish their first location, with a specific goal in mind, one that...

to tell the world in a playful, accessible, and especially different way. To do this, they decide to use the power of immersion to narrate with passion, poetry, and precision great historical events. And starting in February, they will immerse you in the world of the Vikings, thanks to a completely new adventure created especially for this grand launch in Nice.

A Spectacular Experience

From the very first seconds, there's no doubt, we're no longer in Nice, but in the Nordic lands, we're not in 2026 anymore, but in the 10th century. In the heart of this 1000 m² space, 5 rooms follow one another, taking you on a journey through the ruins of a battlefield, right into a village, and even at the table of a palace. Each space, thanks to a constant narration through headphones, available in French or English, provides information, anecdotes, portraits, and facts, allowing us to uncover all the mysteries of this people that still fascinates us today.

This is both a sound and light spectacle and an immersive experience, inviting you to walk in the footsteps of Nordic warriors and discover their influence on the history and foundation of France. The highlight of the show is the Hall of Dreams, which offers a 360° video mapping in a 180 m² space to follow the paths taken by the Vikings. Plus, there’s an exclusive virtual reality game, created in partnership with The Viking Planet — a famous immersive experience center based in Oslo — combining 3D combat with visual and sound ambiance to take the immersion to the next level.

A true lesson in history

And to combine the useful with the enjoyable, the experience...The Vikings experience is so much more than just a simple immersion. Designed with scientists and specialized historians, this adventure also allows you to learn through a story told with accuracy. Throughout the visit, the portraits and testimonies serve as genuine keys to understanding, and there are no less than 5 historical collection objects, along with a series of archaeological items dating from the 8th to the 11th centuries that are featured throughout the tour. Engaging in workshops also lets you learn the techniques and know-how of the era, all while being fully immersed. It’s a unique moment to discover a fascinating world and feast your eyes on it.
