TomTom unveils its latest barometer on urban congestion
The most famous developer of navigation systems has taken stock of the cities where traffic flows the least smoothly. In its latest TomTom Traffic Index, it looked at 387 cities in 55 countries on 6 continents to establish their average travel time, fuel costs, and CO2 emissions.
Contrary to what many of our readers might think, it is much easier to drive in the city of Nantes than anywhere else in France, almost. Out of 25 major French cities ranked by their traffic jams, Nantes is... 12th place! Making it one of the cities with the least congestion. An average trip in Nantes takes 16 minutes compared to 27 minutes in Bordeaux or Paris. Overall, the people in Nantes spent 72 hours in traffic in 2023 whereas our friends in Bordeaux (as you may have guessed, they are at the top of the ranking) are at 111 hours...
On Tuesday mornings, the most difficult time slot in Nantes
Another interesting fact, these traffic jams have an impact on our wallets. Of the 692 euros spent on average by Nantais for gasoline, 159 euros are due to congestion. As for the most difficult traffic moment recorded, according to TomTom, it is on Tuesday mornings between 8am and 9am. Black Tuesday, to be avoided!
