Place Viviani: from asphalt to a green oasis
Located near the busway stop "Île de Nantes," Place Viviani is getting a fresh look. Undergoing renovations for several weeks, it will gradually transform into a true green space.
By the end of April 2025, 99 trees will be planted there, compared to just 32 today. The project also includes the creation of five vegetation bubbles designed to absorb rainwater and reduce heat islands.
But that's not all: the square will be redesigned for pedestrians with permeable paving and a partial pedestrianization of Rue Viviani. Friendly amenities like benches, picnic tables, and deck chairs will enhance the layout. In short, it's going to be a new perfect spot to relax, catch up, or simply enjoy nature right in the heart of the city.

Anatole de Monzie Street: a parking lot transformed into a garden
Another great piece of news for the people of Nantes: the Monzie parking lot will soon make way for the Colonel Arnaud Beltrame Square. Starting in April 2025, construction will begin to remove 900m² of asphalt, freeing up a large area for 3,800 m² of green spaces and 3,500 m² of diverse plantings.
This initiative will not only enhance the living environment for local residents but will also promote biodiversity and sustainable rainwater management. This project, part of an ecological resilience approach, is also a tribute to Arnaud Beltrame, the tragic hero of the 2018 Trebes attack.
With a budget of 270,000 euros, the City of Nantes continues its commitment to greener, more sustainable urban planning.
An even greener metropolis
These two new gardens will enrich the greening policy of the Isle of Nantes, which aims for 21 additional hectares of greenery and more than 1,300 trees planted. Here comes 2030! Let’s not forget the future big park at the west tip, which will complement this ambitious renaturation project.
