Just a reminder or for your information, the ZFE aims to reduce emissions of fine particles and nitrogen oxides, primarily generated by older diesel vehicles. The vehicles affected are those classified as Crit’Air 4 and 5, as well as those without a Crit’Air sticker, considered the most polluting.

4000 vehicles blacklisted in Nantes starting 2025

It's official, unclassified vehicles will no longer be allowed in downtown Nantes starting January 1, 2025. Their circulation will be completely banned around the Nantes ring road. This restriction applies to cars (gasoline and diesel) registered before January 1, 1997, unclassified motorcycles registered before June 1, 2000, utility vehicles (gasoline and diesel) registered before October 1, 1997, and heavy trucks, buses, or coaches (gasoline and diesel) registered before October 1, 2001. This phase-out affects 1% of the vehicle fleet in the Nantes metropolitan area, totaling 4000 vehicles.

The perimeter and operating hours of the Low Emission Zone

The Low Emission Zone will expand within the Nantes ring road. Drivers will need to follow the new rules and the schedule below:

  • From Monday to Friday (excluding public holidays)
  • From 7 AM to 9 AM and 4 PM to 7 PM (peak hours)

It's important to note that parking for prohibited vehicles remains allowed inside the Low Emission Zone. However, their circulation will be strictly regulated.

Solutions for alternative transportation

To support affected drivers, Nantes Metropolis offers several mobility alternatives such as park-and-ride facilities located at the gateways to the metropolis, allowing access to the city center via public transport (among the available car parks:Neustrie, Porte de Vertou, Bourdonnières, Prairie de Mauves, Haluchère, Ranzay, Le Cardo, Marcel Paul, René Cassin, Duguay Trouin, and Frachon), and it also encourages gentle mobility with the development of bike paths and infrastructure for electric vehicles to promote more environmentally friendly modes of transport.
