A Scorching Weekend Ahead

According to Météo France, the first big heatwaves will kick in starting Saturday, with peaks reaching 34-35°C, especially in the northern part of the department. But that's just the beginning because on Sunday, June 29th, we’re expecting temperatures of up to 37°C, and they won’t cool down much in the evening. So get ready for tropical nights where the thermometer won’t drop below 20°C!

Up to 39°C on Monday !

The worst is yet to come on Monday, June 30. Météo France predicts highs reaching up to 38 or even 39°C in the southwest of Loire-Atlantique, a real heatwave! In Nantes, temperatures could also feel like they're nearing 40°C, with heavy air and little wind to cool things down. These temperatures are 4 to 7 degrees above seasonal norms, according to meteorologists. It’s safe to say this heatwave should be taken seriously, especially for the elderly, children, and outdoor workers.

How to cool down in Nantes during the heatwave ?

The City of Nantes has already announced extended opening hours for several parks and gardens until late in the evening, to help residents find a bit of coolness. The fountains, shaded squares, and air-conditioned places (like libraries or shopping centers) will become essential refuges.

A handy reminder :
Drink water regularly, even if you’re not thirsty.
Avoid physical exertion during the hottest hours (12 PM - 6 PM).
Close your shutters during the day, open them at night to create a draft.

A taste of summer or a warning signal ?

This new heat wave once again illustrates the effects of climate change, becoming increasingly tangible in western France. Nantes is not escaping this trend, with peaks near 40°C by the end of June becoming, unfortunately, less and less rare.

So, let’s pull out the hats, stay in the shade, and take care of each other. This summer is shaping up to be sizzling hot!
