A Week of Struggles on the Ring Road
Since the complete closure of the structure, nearly 95,000 vehicles a day have had to take alternative routes. The result: endless traffic jams on the eastern part of the ring road and in a good part of the metropolitan area, with longer travel times and a few frustrated honks.
“We fully understand all the difficulties that users might experience,” explains Frédéric Gautier, head of the Traffic Engineering and Management Center (CIGT) in Nantes.
Essential Work Before the Crossroad
While the closure has caused quite a bit of stress for drivers, it was all for a good reason. Teams took advantage of this summer period, when traffic is lighter, to secure a sinking roadway and replace the waterproofing of the metal beam.
A delicate but essential project to ensure the safety and longevity of the bridge, which remains a key connection between the north and the south.
Return to normal by Friday noon
The good news is that traffic will resume on Friday, August 1st at 12 PM in the outbound direction and at 1 PM in the inbound direction. This is a relief for drivers just in time for the big vacation departures and those dreaded crossroad weekends.
Alleluiaaaa!!!
