The Editor

What's happening? A heatwave is gently but surely settling in over the area, with a peak temperature expected on Saturday, where thermometers could rise up to 37°C according to Météo France.

What is the yellow heatwave alert?

The yellow alert is the first level of heatwave warning; it signals a heat episode that, while not exceptional, requires special attention, especially for vulnerable groups (the elderly, infants, people with disabilities, the homeless, etc.).

Activation of the Orsec plan

In response to this rising temperature, the prefecture of Loire-Atlantique activated the Orsec plan for “heatwave” on Wednesday afternoon. This crisis management plan helps coordinate all local actions to protect the population.
Municipalities and event organizers (music festivals, fairs, etc.) have received guidance to adapt their arrangements and increase vigilance.

The Good Practices to Adopt

To tackle this heatwave, we recommend you to:
*Drink water regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty
*Cool yourself down (spray bottle, lukewarm shower…)
*Avoid alcohol and sugary drinks
*Eat enough to prevent fatigue
*Limit physical activity, especially during the hottest hours (12 PM – 6 PM)
*Close shutters and windows during the day, and ventilate at night
*Check in on vulnerable or isolated people around you

Nantes is Getting Involved

Some communities might adapt their services (cool spaces, crèche hours, water distribution, etc.) if the situation changes. If needed, a national helpline is available: Heatwave Info Service at 0800 06 66 66 (free call).

So yes, summer is here, but caution, hydration, and solidarity are key to getting through this heat safely.
