A XXL park to breathe
The heart of this vast project is the future Loire park. As big as the combined Jardin des plantes and Jardin extraordinaire, it aims to reconnect the city to its river while bringing freshness, biodiversity, and well-being. Unlike classic urban projects, here, the park will be created before the housing, making it a unique approach in France.
Designed with the help of an "Island Assembly": 36 residents, users, and stakeholders, this park will be both a local space and a destination in itself. You’ll find wet meadows, terraces, groves, playgrounds, and a green diagonal stretching all the way to the tip of the island.
The Wilson Dock is Transforming
At the foot of the future university hospital, the Wilson Dock is set to change its look as well. Currently very concrete, it will become a green space for leisure, featuring 250 planted trees, playful gardens, relaxation areas, picnic spots, and even rehabilitation spaces. 70% of the ground will be made permeable again to allow nature to reclaim its place. Expected completion starting in 2028.
A new neighborhood that breathes
Around the park, up to 2,100 homes will be created, with a focus on social and affordable housing (55%). Additionally, there will be 25,000m² of public facilities: schools, cultural and sports amenities. All designed according to the 3/30/300 rule, meaning you can see 3 trees from your home, live in a neighborhood with 30% canopy cover, and be no more than 300m from a green space.
Nantes is reshaping urban life by blending ecology, citizen participation, and quality of life. It's a project that makes you want to put down roots, doesn’t it?
