The mayor of Nantes announced on Thursday the strengthening of video surveillance in Nantes with the deployment of 80 new cameras in the city center and surrounding areas. This would bring the total number of cameras in the city to 330, well above the average of 25 cameras installed in previous years.

Originally, the mayor of Nantes had set a goal of reaching a total of 250 cameras by the end of her term in 2026. It is therefore with 2 years in advance that she kept her word, driven by a security context struggling in her city. "Since 2018, 1,080 operations have been conducted with the national police and municipal police to directly assist people in difficulty or attacked thanks to the cameras. 3,000 video extractions have been carried out and submitted to judicial requisition to help solve investigations," explains the.Community in statements relayed by Ouest-France.
If the exact location of the cameras remains confidential, the number of cameras per neighborhood is now known: 27 are planned for the downtown neighborhoods, 13 on the main boulevards...
