The most peaceful, the Place de la Canourgue

It was once a central square of Montpellier life. Today, it is more discreet, but no less charming. Composed of a central garden surrounded by terraces, it is surrounded by superb private mansions from the 17th century. People come here to take a stroll, admire its many charms, and linger to have a drink in the shade of the trees. Unfortunately, the square has lost some of its splendor due to the construction work... which should be completed in a few months (fingers crossed!).

The coolest spot, Place des Beaux-Arts

Feeling like escaping the city center? Off to Beaux-Arts we go! Just a stone's throw from Corum, this neighborhood is often described as a "village within the city." Beaux-Arts lives to the beat of its square, constantly being renewed with markets, flea markets, musical evenings... Here, there's room for everyone: you will always find a table to sit at and enjoy a drink or a traditional Suze.

The cutest, Saint-Anne Square

At the foot of the Sainte Anne Cathedral, with its bell tower overlooking Montpellier, you'll find two terraces. The Bistro Saint-Anne and the Irish Pub O'Carolans benefit from this very pleasant spot, often well sheltered and frequented by lovers of the historic center of Montpellier. One little downside, prices are a bit high. So great for a fancy outing, but not much else!

The most festive spot, Place Candolle

Just steps away from Place Sainte-Anne, you stroll down Rue de l'Université to find yourself at Place Candolle. Far from the hustle and bustle of Place de la Comédie, it's the perfect place to unwind, in the shade of the ancient Hackberry trees. Here, among students and true Montpellier locals looking for a less "touristy" atmosphere, we enjoy. And it's not uncommon for amateur musicians to take out their guitars or drums from time to time for an impromptu concert...

The most discreet, the flower market square

Not only does it have such a cute name, it's also a great place to sit outside and enjoy a nice cold drink. Located just two minutes from the Arc de Triomphe and the Prefecture, it is right in the heart of the historic center, yet sheltered from the hustle and bustle of the surrounding streets. With its lovely fountain and peaceful atmosphere, it is full of cafes where you can quench your thirst.
