Montpellier ranked among the favorite cities of the French for moving

Drivalia, the rental, leasing, and mobility company from CA Auto Bank, has analyzed the internal data from its one-way rental service, Rent and Drop, which is popular for moving. They’ve put together a list of the favorite destinations of the French for starting a new life. Montpellier ranks 6th, following Paris, Toulouse, Bordeaux, and Lille.

Drivalia's ranking focuses on the favorite cities of the French for starting a new life. It’s a study that comes at just the right time, announced a few days after the back-to-school season.

The result? Paris is the most sought-after city for moving, followed by Toulouse, Bordeaux, Lyon, and Lille. Cities like Montpellier (6th), Marseille (7th), Rennes (8th), Nantes (9th), and Aix-en-Provence (10th) continue the ranking.  Notably, Le Mans, La Rochelle, and Annecy also make it into the top 20 most requested destinations.

Another wave of Parisians coming soon?

However, while many French people have moved to the capital, just as many have left it for good. Residents leaving Île-de-France primarily choose the Atlantic coast (between La Rochelle and Bayonne) and the PACA region, both at a rate of 16%. The city of Bordeaux alone accounts for 8% of the relocations from Paris, followed by Lyon and Toulouse (7% each).

The Grand-Ouest comes in 3rd place, with the main destinations being Brittany and the Pays de la Loire for 11% of Parisians.
