It all starts with unpaid rent soaring to about €50,000, a hole in the finances dug deep because of Covid and a bumpy comeback of concerts. Until then, the team was relying on promised grants from the Metropolis and other local authorities to stay afloat. But the delays dragged on, bills piled up, and the courts had to step in. At the end of April, the Montpellier Court of Appeal refused to grant an extra extension to settle the debt… The result: an eviction process initiated by the landlord, a tough blow for Fifi, the manager.

Despite the shaking walls, Fifi is determined to carry on. He wants to file an appeal and is doing everything he can to quickly unlock the funding. Because the Secret Place is a vibrant hub, a hangout for rock, punk, and metal lovers, an anchor for the underground culture in Montpellier that deserves to thrive. Since 1996, it has hosted dozens of bands, generations, and unforgettable mosh pits.

A Buildup of Struggles

Today, the Secret Place team and the TAF association are making a call: for all those who love this place, have visited it, felt its energy, sweated, and sung in its pit to come together. Because we can't let such a place fade away in indifference.
