Inaugurated in 1969, the Neptune water center has been a beloved part of Montpellier's landscape for generations. For decades, it welcomed nearly 150,000 swimmers each year, with lanes for serious swimming, children's laughter, and afternoons filled with splashes. But time eventually caught up with it! Closed for a thorough renovation, the place is now reborn under a new name: the Neptune Aquatic Center!Since January 12, the residents of Mosson and the northwest of the metropolis can once again walk through the doors of this completely redesigned facility. New entrance, enlarged reception area, smoother flow: from the very first steps, you can tell that Neptune has taken on a whole new dimension.

Modernized pools designed for all uses

Inside, the heart of the project revolves around water. The main 25-meter pool has been completely redone, as has a 15-meter learning space, rave;three out of 15. Added to this is a balneo area with water jets, a hot tub, and a secure paddling pool, perfect for attracting both families and swimmers looking for relaxation. The renovation didn’t just aim for aesthetics. Redesigned changing rooms, a brand new gym, and a handi-room dedicated to the independence of people with disabilities: comfort and inclusivity were clearly at the heart of the project. Even the outdoor bleachers have been revamped, featuring a capacity of 500 seats to host the public and events.

A renovation costing 22.5 million euros

With over 22.5 million euros invested, the metropolis has really gone all out! The building is becoming more open to its surroundings.

With a revamped forecourt, better integration into the new South-Mosson city entrance, and sustainable technical choices. Enhanced insulation, 500 m² of photovoltaic panels, connection to the metropolitan heating network: Neptune aims to be more responsible too! And this is just the beginning: by the summer of 2026, the site will be enriched with a 50-meter outdoor Olympic pool, mineral and plant beaches, play areas, and relaxation zones. Ultimately, up to 900 people will be able to enjoy it at the same time. Priority will be given to schools to promote “learning to swim,” before schools, high-level clubs, and even official competitions arrive. A true revival for Neptune!
