Regulars of the esplanade will need to brace themselves for some changes: the terraces and kiosks lining the pathways will temporarily disappear to make way for construction. To ensure the smooth progress of the project, the terraces and kiosks located on Paul Boulet walkway will be dismantled starting this Monday, September 16, after a final day of activity on Sunday, the 15th. However, the establishments along Sarrail Boulevard, such as « Café de l’Esplanade », « Chez Boris », « The White Cat », and « La Cantine d’Adrien », will remain accessible via Place de la Comédie throughout the construction.
Closed Kiosks and Relocated Florists
During this renovation phase, scheduled to last nine months, several services will be reorganized to minimize disruptions for residents and visitors. The florists, the ticket office for the little train, and a fast food point will be temporarily relocated near the Tourist Office, ensuring that services continue smoothly. The carousel, on the other hand, has been moved to Antigone.
Nine months of work
If everything goes as planned, the new garden walkway will be ready to welcome the public in summer 2025. While the construction temporarily disrupts the routines of shopkeepers and regulars, this transformation promises to give this iconic square in Montpellier a fresh new look. With a little patience and adjustment, the metamorphosis of the esplanade will be complete in just a few months. In the meantime, don't hesitate to take a stroll by the food trucks and wooden chalets set up to keep the connection with your favorite merchants alive!
