Saint-Roch, emblematic figure and protector of Montpellier, is celebrated every August. This tradition continues in many cities around the world, but it is in Montpellier that the festivities take on a special significance. This year, the events will take place on August 15 and 16, with a program full of surprises and discoveries.
Activities for every taste
On the agenda for the festivities: historical parades, flag thrower shows, concerts, and much more. For the first time, the canine society and the 132nd cynotechnical infantry regiment of Suippes will be joining, accompanied by their loyal four-legged companions. Anne-Marie Conte-Privat, president of the International Association of Saint-Roch of Montpellier, tells us: &laqu We have focused on festive activities this year. A Packed Program
On Thursday, August 15, the festivities will kick off at 8:15 pm with a grand parade starting from the Maison des Relations Internationales. The procession will go through the streets of the city center, with stops for performances in front of the Porte d'eau, on the Esplanade, and in Saint-Roch square. On Friday, August 16, the day will start at 9:30 am with another parade, followed by musical entertainment throughout the day. The Bandurà group, with its world music, promises to make the squares of l'Écusson come alive. The highlight of the festivities will take place on Friday evening with a grand final parade at 5 pm. This parade will bring together local personalities, foreign delegations, associations, and of course, the famous flag throwers from Borgo San Lorenzo d'Alba. The arrival is scheduled at the kiosk on the Esplanade around 7:40 pm, for a spectacular finale.
