39 buildings are classified as Historical Monuments

To understand the origins of Pézenas, you have to go back to 1261, when Saint Louis bought the city. Since then, it has become a real place of the bourgeoisie and nobility. The Dukes of Montmorency and the Prince of Conti built buildings that still give the city its charm. Pézenas promises you a very pleasant stroll if you decide to visit.

I wrote this b.Beautiful and exciting read and used many exclamation points!!! The city is gorgeous and full of life thanks to all the restaurants, street musicians, and shops that will definitely grab your attention with their souvenirs, art, jewelry, and local products. Basically, as soon as you step into the city, you'll be charmed right away because there are so many buildings there that are considered Historical Monuments!!!

Pézenas, the town of Molière

But why do they say that Pézenas is the town of Molière? Well, simply because the famous French playwright stayed here for several years with his troupe. It is here, in this small town in Occitanie, that Molière launched his career in 1646, after facing his first failure in Paris. Don't miss the Vulliod Saint-Germain museum, a former 16th-century mansion, where the actor's armchair sits. You can also admire Molière's bust, sculpted by Jean-Antoine Injalbert, inaugurated in 1897.

A true "Hollywood Boulevard" on Cours Jean Jaurès

Pézenas has become the reference city for actors. Many French comedy figures have passed through here. When strolling along Cours Jean Jaurès, you will notice the hand and footprints of actors who have performed in the city or have a connection (close or distant) to Molière, such as Claude Brasseur, Valérie Lemercier, Antoine Duléry, Jean-Claude Dreyfus and Michel Galabru. Be sure to visit the theater of Pézenas, created in 1803, a lively cultural place where the renowned academic Marcel Pagnol famously said: "If Jean Baptiste Poquelin was born in Paris, Molière was born in Pézenas".

Delicious Berlingots

Looking for a sweet treat in Pézenas? Don't miss out on the delightful berlingots! Legend has it that these candies were created by a traveler from North Africa during the Old Regime. He shared the recipe with a local pastry chef as a thank you for his kindness. Originally, berlingots were hand-cut and long in shape. As demand increased, bronze cylinders were used for cutting, giving them the shape they have today! Berlingots are truly fascinating, aren't they?

You now have all the keys in hand to have a pleasant stay in Pézenas, which, we remind you, is only 50 minutes away from our favorite city!! More info
