In Montpellier, summer nights will no longer have quite the same flavor. Since July 18, the Place de la Comédie and the Esplanade Charles-de-Gaulle have been dressed in a new light that is as elegant as it is surprising, according to information from Métropolitain. Gone are the dull nights under anonymous streetlights: here, lighting becomes a show. Choreographed by Vincent Thiesson, a true "sculptor of light," this poetic setup gives a golden shine to the historical stones while gracefully taming the darkness. No bling-bling, no visual excess. Just the right amount of light to enhance the decor, like a spotlight on a star in the midst of a monologue.
A dazzling show starting at sunset
Every weekend, from sunset onwards, the façades come alive with light, casting playful shadows. As they dance, the atmosphere changes. The light intensity even adjusts to the crowd: fewer people, less light. And as soon as a wanderer or a group of night owls approaches, the sensors gently awaken the beams. The result: a vibrant, almost tangible setting, turning the city into a character all its own.

Beyond aesthetics, this initiative shines a light on an entire environmental philosophy. No waste, no light pollution. The beams are directed downwards, the intensity decreases in the heart of the night, and energy savings reach 66%. Yes, 66%. Enough to shine without burning the planet. Between technical prowess and urban poetry, Montpellier shows that beauty, sobriety... and brightness can rhyme.
