A study published by SumUp compared the budget required for a brunch outing among friends in major French cities. And Montpellier climbed onto the podium: 2nd place, with a score of 93.31 out of 100, just behind Saint-Étienne (97.15). This should bring a smile to all those who thought the capital of Hérault only had sunshine to offer (spoiler: it also has reasonable bills).
22 euros, the price of peace of mind
Specifically, a brunch costs an average of 22€ in Montpellier. Compared to the 29€ in Paris or 32€ in Lyon, the difference is quite significant: up to 10€ saved per person, which, on an outing for four, easily allows for another cocktail (just wait, we're getting to that).
The cocktail, a partner in great ranking
The average price of a cocktail also plays a role in the equation: in Montpellier, it's around €11, compared to significantly pricier rates elsewhere. This detail matters when the brunch outing leisurely extends into cocktail hour. And Montpellier isn't the only one making waves in the region: Nîmes ranks 7th and Toulouse 9th.
The Top 5 at a glance:
- Saint-Étienne: brunch at €20, cocktail at €8.50
- Montpellier: brunch at €22, cocktail at €11
- Toulon: brunch at €19, cocktail at €11.50
- Rennes: brunch at €20, cocktail at €10
- Clermont-Ferrand: brunch at €27, cocktail at €8.50
In short, if the next brunch with friends is on the way, head to Montpellier instead of Paris. Your belly (and your bank account) will thank you!
