In the peaceful town of Sainte-Croix-de-Quintillargues, just north of Montpellier, you can now find the most celebrated croissant in the department. The manager of the bakery Chez Lulu has won the contest for the best croissant in Hérault 2026, organized by the Confederation of Retail Food and the Chamber of Trades. This award shines a light on a humble but passionate artisan. Having fallen in love with baking since childhood, he honed his skills far from France, traveling between Australia and Montreal, before settling in Hérault in 2023.

A recognition that goes beyond the competition
This award confirms a momentum that's already well underway. In January 2025, the bakery Chez Lulu caught the public's eye thanks to its participation in La Meilleure Boulangerie de France on M6. A national exposure, while still staying rooted in the local community. While the departmental title remains in Hérault, the Occitanie region is also shining. Another artisan, this time based in the Pyrénées-Orientales, has won the national title for the best butter croissant. Proof that the South knows how to handle pastry-making with precision too !
