A Camel

In December 2023, it was Bounty, the camel from the northern districts of Marseille, who escaped from circus Benzini during a change of enclosure. The female weighing close to 600 kg then went for a nice stroll in the streets of the city.

A Fin Whale

This amazing sea creature was captured on camera by Calanques Park agents. It's the second largest mammal in the world, so watch out if you happen to encounter one during your morning swim!

A Blue Shark

Spotted in the Old Port from the Quai Rive Neuve, this 50cm long blue shark was swimming among the fish. This species is usually found in temperate and tropical oceans up to 350m deep, but young, brave individuals prefer to explore near the coast where the temperatures are more comfortable. Spotting one of these elusive creatures takes some luck!

A Rhinoceros

Let's travel back to the 16th century, when a ship arrived on the island of If with a rhinoceros on board! The animal was a gift for Pope Leo X, but it took a break to unwind. The news spread like wildfire, and boats and dinghies hurried to catch a glimpse of the magnificent creature stretching its legs!

Parakeets

These small birds with bright green feathers and long tails, resembling small parrots, have made themselves at home in the southern neighborhoods of the city. Originally a tropical species, they have been breeding in Marseille since they escaped from a breeding facility over 10 years ago. Now perfectly adapted to urban life, they enjoy feasting on fruits.its, berries, and snails.Hello! Welcome to our website. We are excited to have you here. A Whale

I would even say 2 whales spotted at the entrance of the Old Port of Marseille at the surface of the water off the beach of Catalans. About twenty meters long, the animals were escorted and protected by the maritime gendarmerie to safely guide them back to sea.

Meet the Genet!

This adorable creature, resembling a small cat, was recently seen by a team in the Calanques park. Genets are quite elusive, as they are primarily nocturnal animals. These little felines are rare and endangered, making sightings like this a special and exciting event.
