The Editor

Since January 1st, 2013, this unassuming bar-restaurant has been delighting the locals. A quality bistro with three beautiful, fresh daily specials (made with organic and local products) served every lunchtime along with a well-curated wine list!

Every evening, when the sun plays extra time (or not!), refreshing beers or a pastis-panisse combo are a must.

An assumed and assured Relève

If the story of the two Gregs started in 2013, the story of La Relève began long before that (hence its name!). Rooted in Endoume, the address (41 rue d'Endoume) has been a neighborhood bar since 1944.

The Agosta family takes turns summoning bus drivers "off shift" (and between relays), neighboring military personnel, and passersby to fuel the counter. Back then, people would drink a strong coffee in the morning and elbow their way to a terrace seat during happy hour.

Over time, following the principle of a well-oiled succession, La Relève is ensured by the mother and granddaughter Agosta. In 2013, Greg Hessmann and Greg Mandonato take up the torch with the promise to keep the institution true to its roots.

Greg au carré

They both share the name "Greg" and wear the Marseille way of life like a second skin. Twice, the Gregs have joined forces to liven up their neighborhood. Before La Relève, their first masterstroke was the Café de l’Abbaye.

Another successful bar suspended in this human-sized neighborhood. If Greg Hessmann twirls his trays among a always pampered clientele, Greg Mandonato, the man behind the stoves, cooks dishes with as much precision as passion. Each has their place, each has their role, but the same path: La Relève !

In the heart of this ultra-controlled epicurean parenthesis, we gather on the terrace almost all year round to chat and eat with family. The old-fashioned counter spirit, the speckled 5x5 tile floor, the short but tempting slate, the 70s bench and above all the generous banter behind the bar... Everything is there or almost! The almost, are the 4 bedrooms like at home, which they decide to open together 10 years after the restaurant opened.

The 4 rooms now offered by La Relève are in the image of the bar and the restaurant, they cultivate the "neighborhood" spirit.Beautiful collection of local artisans, they house the creations of well-known and lesser-known talents in the world of Decor.Chambre La Relève

Each room has its own color code (blue, pink, green or yellow) and its associated theme: tropical, rococo, Provencal, or Mediterranean. To ensure both the decor and comfort, the keys have been entrusted to Annick Lestrohan and Ingrid Giribone, the mother-daughter duo behind the Marseille-based brand Honoré.
In this way, beyond being secure, La Relève propels its little world into an unexpected universe.
