Here we are, by the river known in the region as la Cadière. This stream that runs from Vitrolles to Les Pennes-Mirabeau, most of its journey flowing underground, finds daylight at a rather magical spot called the Source de l'Infernet. Always calm, this source holds a steady and gentle flow as it is fed, among other things, by the reservoir of the artificial basin of Le Réaltor near Cabriès (20km from the Étang de Berre), built in 1869 to regulate the flow on the Canal de Marseille.
The Source de l'Infernet: the Arizona of Southeast France
If this truly extraordinary place bears a name with a paradoxical symbolism Infernet ("that comes out of hell") and comes from a strange legend involving an old madman, a leprechaun, and a sea monster.
Big, it is nonetheless a little corner of earthly paradise.

One part of the watercourse is a fishing reserve, while the other is a peaceful swimming spot. And if the source is the highlight, the (easy) path to get there is just as enchanting. Nicknamed by the people of Vitrolles, the French Arizona, the red earth and sharp rocks of this area, a 20-minute drive from the center of Marseille, indeed evoke landscapes of the American lands!
