The Editor

In Marseille, you can divide the city by district, but especially by neighborhood. We'll talk more about La Plaine and Cours Julien than the 6th arrondissement, which houses most of the lively neighborhoods in the city, including Castellane and Lodi. La Plaine and Cours Julien are neighborhoods with strong, rebellious, and sometimes provocative personalities. Here, we appreciate the colorful walls and numerous graffiti, independent shops, and trendy bars. You walk through the heart of La Plaine or Cours Ju, often without a predefined plan, just wanting to interact with the people in the neighborhood.La Plaine MarseilleStreets and square of Cours Ju and La Plaine - Mélodie Maurel ©

La Plaine Marseille: Did you know that La Plaine was not supposed to be called this?

It is actually a mistranslation of the Provençal word Plana which does not mean plain but flat! As you may have noticed, the neighborhood is built on a plateau and not in a plain! That's why from the buildings of Cours Ju or Notre Dame du Mont, you can overlook a part of the Phocaean city and have a face to face with the Bonne M.Be happy!La plaine et le cours Julien

Its restaurants

The neighborhood offers a multitude of restaurants so our selection will be minimal compared to the offerings available.

La Cantinetta

To savor Italian cuisine based on fresh products and know-how, there is no better address than this trattoria located on the Cours Julien with one of the most beautiful patios in the city! Linguine, risotto, burrata, scaloppine, gnocchis and other specialties are on the menu for a great evening at La Cantinetta...

Its bars

Some may say it's a bit shady.. You just have to get used to the smell of garbage! Once again, there are so many bars per square meter that we can't mention them all.. Sorry if some feel a little offended.

ID Fixe

If you want to enjoy the coolness of the pools and shade, head to Cours Ju' on the terrace of ID Fixe for example, which offers excellent mojitos and Caipirinhas for 5€ during Happy Hour with fresh strawberries inside!
