Sandy, pebbles, gravel, private sunbeds... Marseille has a total of 21 beaches spread out over 57km of coastline, so there's a way to find a chill spot to your liking. Some of these beaches are way too crowded. But we have to admit that even the most crowded ones are very instagrammable and the color of the water makes us quickly forget about our towel neighbors. We have selected a few for you to make your lounging easier!

Le Bain des Dames

A true sunbathing haven for the locals, the family-friendly atmosphere of this small rocky cove and its cabins can only make us fall in love. A shower has even been recently installed and the parking makes access (a little) easier.

La Verrerie

This small sandy beach on the road to Madrague de Montredon, well exposed for the sunset, is very popular with the people of Marseille, especially at aperitif time. It is also known as " Chez Dédé ", the name of the pizzeria that was located on the beach until 2013.

Malmousque

Feeling 100% local in the little hidden coves of Malmousque Cove, at its small port and on its big rocks that go straight down into the water. Under the Corniche and the Endoume neighborhood, 10 minutes from the Old Port, Marseille grandmas as much as hipster youth come here to lay out their towels and enjoy the water without straying too far from the city.

The Monkey Bay

On the road to Les Goudes towards Cap Croisette, the narrow sandy beach of La Baie des Singes is hidden, which can be reached by walking about ten minutes. Protected from the wind by a dike, it offers an impressive view of the Maïre island just in front. People go there for the "end of the world" atmosphere that can only be found in Les Goudes, and for the view of the island and the passing boats.

Calanques National Park

En Vau, Sormiou, Morgiou, Sugiton... The choice is vast when it comes to swimming in the Calanques between Marseille and Cassis. On foot (30 to 60 minutes depending on the Calanques), by bike or by boat, access is often sporty. But once you arrive, you won't want to leave. The crystal clear water, the pine forest, the limestone rock, and the cleanliness of the creeks are truly breathtaking. Choose your spot in advance, don't forget your sneakers and water bottle, and set off for the day, guaranteed vacation vibes!

The Frioul Islands

No need to take a plane to feel like you're on vacation. Hop on the shuttle at the Old Port for a little getaway with family or friends to the Frioul Islands, which are full of beautiful and less crowded swimming spots. With seagulls, fish, and vegetation, the air is fresher than in the city and you can totally unplug!
