The sunny identity of Marseille lies in its local dialect, its calanques, its turquoise waters, but also in its gastronomy, a true means of sharing in this cosmopolitan city. And the city really understands that! To celebrate its heritage, it launched the Mars à Table festival last March in collaboration with the Tourist Office, inviting visitors and locals to taste a local emblem: aioli.
After a well-celebrated first edition – and kilos of aioli consumed – Mars à Table is back for a second, more autumnal edition, this time highlighting a Mediterranean giant: octopus and beef daube. It's happening until October 18 in the restaurants of the Phocaean city, which have three days to showcase this traditional dish.
A friendly festival of sea, gastronomy, and activities
After an initial gathering on Saturday, October 4...On the beach of l’Estaque, it's near the Escale Borely neighborhood where we’ll gather on October 11. To kick off the day on a good note, Mars à Table invites everyone to raise awareness about environmental protection with a big clean-up event in the morning, before settling down by the sea for a feast prepared by chefs. Offered by local favorite spots – like Sport Beach, L'Équinoxe, Le Greenwich, and Les Mouettes – the banquet will let you savor a delicious take on beef stew or octopus for just 15€.

Throughout the day (from 10 AM to 5 PM), we can come together for a bunch of fun activities: sea-themed face painting (after all, we are in Marseille), a giant hopscotch, quizzes galore, fishing sessions for little fish, stories for the kiddos… Plus, there will be plenty of stands with social games, wooden games, foosball, and of course, the local star, pétanque! All of this will be happening to the lively tunes of marching bands and DJ sets keeping the vibe going from morning to night.
A grand finale at the Old Port
And because every good thing has to come to an end: the final gathering will take place on Saturday, October 18th at the Old Port, on the esplanade and Bargemon square. We always kick off with a morning dedicated to the environment featuring waste workshops, followed by the traditional feast with a phenomenal view of the most beautiful port in France to top it all off. This time, we’ll have chef Arnaud Carton de Grammont in the kitchen alongside Ciao Marcello, for a fresh interpretation!
savor the delicious daube. The little bonus? You can even take advantage of the chef's skills with free cooking workshops at 3:30 PM and 4:15 PM (by reservation).See this post on Instagram
The rest of the day will be full of surprises, with parades and pétanque contests galore, plus some extra treats: puppet shows for the little ones and karaoke sessions, so everyone can sing together in chorus. The only rule is: come and let yourself be carried away by the magic of sharing.
