Starting July 4th, a breeze of light, sound, and legends sweeps over Aix-en-Provence: LUMINISCENCE, an immersive 360° spectacle, shines its spotlights in the sacred and majestic setting of Saint-Sauveur Cathedral. After enchanting over 500,000 spectators across France, this experience finally lands in Provence for a grand summer season.
Saint-Sauveur Cathedral like you've never seen it before
Built on the foundations of an ancient Roman forum – and, according to legend, a temple of Apollo – Saint-Sauveur Cathedral is much more than a place of worship: it’s a vibrant witness to the city’s history. Its three naves blending Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque styles make it a rare architectural gem. It's no surprise that chaque year, thousands of visitors flock here to admire this masterpiece of stone and spirituality.
And this summer, thanks to LUMINISCENCE, this historic monument comes to life like never before. With the help of advanced 3D modeling, the teams have created monumental light projections that embrace every detail of the architecture, delivering 50 minutes of pure enchantment. Add to this an enchanting soundtrack, sensitive narration, and even live vocal performances, and you have a true sensory fairy tale.

A tale in 4 acts, between glorious past and bright future
LUMINISCENCE is so much more than just a show: it’s a luminous odyssey in four parts, bringing to life the story of the cathedral…and of the city itself. From the very first act, we dive back to the 2nd century B.C., when the Romans founded Aix and built a pagan basilica at the heart of the forum. This basilica later transformed into a unique two-nave cathedral during the Christianization of the Empire. In the second act, while the Middle Ages have already given the cathedral some gothic accents, the building continues to evolve, enhanced by stained glass and a third nave, this time baroque.
In the third act, music takes center stage, as for centuries, the cathedral has housed canons whose echoing chants still resonate today. Thanks to...à its perfect acoustics and its unique architecture, sacred music has taken flight in the cathedral. The fourth act then presents a future-oriented finale, where the cathedral becomes a symbol of unity between innovation and memory. And to top it all off: every weekend, one of the most talented choirs in the region will elevate the spectacle with live performances, revisiting classic and sacred masterpieces. A guaranteed thrill.
