The sun-kissed identity of Marseille lies in its local dialect, its turquoise waters, and also its gastronomy, which truly brings people together in this cosmopolitan city. And the city knows this well! To celebrate its heritage, it’s launching the Mars à Table festival in collaboration with the Tourism Office, inviting visitors and locals alike to sample the finest Mediterranean products. This delightful event will take place from March 8 to 22 in the restaurants of the Phocean city, giving them two weeks to showcase their signature dishes.

Local fishing at the heart of the plate

Restaurants getting in on the fun – you can find the list on the Tourist Office website – are going to shake up their menus: alongside a traditional bouillabaisse, tapenade, or anchoïade, chefs will cook up all kinds of delicious dishes with aïoli for 15 days. This is a wonderful way for the city to highlight one of its must-haves, alongside its locally sourced and sustainable fish, pure products of the South, while reminding everyone of the importance of preserving the Mediterranean.

3 banquets with a view of the sea

And because being from Marseille also means being friendly, three banquets will be organized in Estaque, at Pointe-Rouge, and on the Vieux-Port. These popular feasts will bring together young and old for delicious moments, filled with musical entertainment, fun activities, and cultural discoveries, all for free !

Every Saturday of the month – on the 8th, 15th, and 22nd of March – the program will be quite similar. The day will start with a community initiative: a clean-up and raising awareness about environmental protection led by the associations 1 Waste per Day and Recyclop, from 10:30 AM to 12 PM. This will be followed by an immersion into the heart of the neighborhood with a guided tour, before moving on to a myriad of workshops celebrating the sea: make your own…

Village, sardine fishing initiation, puppet show and photo booth to capture these moments.

But the highlight of these festivities will undoubtedly be the banquet itself: a giant aioli, served from 11:30 AM to 3:30 PM, to delight your taste buds and celebrate the local culinary tradition. There’s just one rule: sign up and let the magic of sharing sweep you away!
