Want to discover Marseille from all angles and venture into its most secret places? Le Bonbon has found for you the 5 craziest places to explore in Urbex (urban exploration). Whether it's an old film studio, abandoned pool and theater, shipyard, or ultra-creepy retirement home, it's time to lace up your sneakers and pack your backpack to explore these historically significant places! And remember: Urbex is above all about respecting the places and their past. Happy exploring!

The most accessible: the Luminy pool

Let's start with the simplest and safest access site: the abandoned Luminy pool, deserted for over 10 years. It is the most accessible and impressive urbex spot in Marseille, with a post-apocalyptic movie-like setting that will leave you breathless. The tags and colors add character to the environment while nature tries to reclaim its space... Thanks to El Cheeba for his beautiful photo reportage.

The most chaotic: the animation studio

This former successful animation studio in the 2000s went bankrupt due to financial problems with producers. Since its closing in 2013, the place has been abandoned. Long occupied by travelers, it is now unoccupied and freely accessible for exploration. The site consists of a main building and a vast outdoor area on a surface of nearly 1200m2.

The most mysterious: the abandoned shipyard

This time, it's an old small ship repair yard. Imagine strolling by the sea around its naval remnants among the abandoned boat hulls. We can see 4 buildings, probably warehouses and an office as well as a small dock.

The Most Nostalgic: Athena Theater

This old abandoned theater in the middle of Athena Park in the North of Marseille, still has some intact bleachers amidst this lush vegetation! The stage and the ruins of columns are still visible thanks to a few walls still standing. A setting that takes us right back to the 18th century...

The Spookiest: The Retirement Home of the 4 Clovers

If you're the scaredy-cat type, this place is a real horror movie all by itself. Let us set the scene for you: an abandoned retirement home frozen in time with its empty rooms and (not so) silent corridors... Both melancholic and intriguing, it's a shivering place with sounds of doors opening and closing...

The lush and dominant vegetation gives a true end-of-the-world impression. A guaranteed change of scenery for the bravest!
