Every year, Booking ranks the most welcoming destinations based on millions of customer reviews. In 2024, Roussillon takes the top spot, ahead of many other French cities. This victory doesn’t really surprise those who have already strolled through its ochre-hued streets.

An enchanting decor that captivates visitors

Nestled in the heart of the Luberon, Roussillon is famous for its ochre cliffs with vibrant hues and its almost unreal landscapes. Blending nature and heritage, this village, ranked among the most beautiful in France, attracts thousands of visitors each year in search of authenticity. Between the ochre of the cliffs and the greenery of the pines, the stunning scenery dazzles the many thousands of visitors who come to this site every year.

But beyond the stunning views, it's the warm atmosphere and the hospitality of the locals that truly make a difference. In this village where time seems to stand still, visitors are invited to explore the famous Ochre Trail, a magical stroll through a canyon filled with vibrant colors.

A lively village… especially in summer

While Roussillon shines with its welcoming vibe and authenticity, some shopkeepers do have a slightly different take on this distinction. Most agree that Roussillon really sparkles during the summer season. Off-season, the village struggles with a lack of open shops, due to the absence of residents and tourists.

Three towns in Vaucluse in the top 10

Roussillon isn't the only town representing Vaucluse with pride! L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue and Bédoin rank 5th and 7th respectively, while Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur) holds the 8th position, showcasing the charm of our beloved south. With its preserved nature, rich heritage, and warm hospitality, Vaucluse appears to be a fantastic destination for travelers seeking authenticity.
