The International Music & Cinema Festival in Marseille unveils its winners!

We were eagerly awaiting the results, and here they are now announced! From March 24 to 29, the 26th edition of the International Music & Cinema Festival Marseille took place. For six days, the Artplexe Canebière buzzed with the rhythm of the 7th Art, featuring film concerts, masterclasses, as well as concerts and DJ sets. This year, a total of 11 feature films from 18 countries and 64 short films from 26 countries were selected and presented to the audience. Let’s take a look at the winners of this international competition.

Two Grand Prizes Awarded for Musical Creation

Since its inception in 1999, the International Music & Cinema Festival Marseille has aimed to promote young cinematic creation and musical creation for the screen. This year, the Grand Prize for Best Original Music, awarded to a feature film, was given to Toxic by Saulė Bliuvaitė with original music by Gediminas Jabubka. The Grand Prize for Best Musical Creation, given to a short film, was awarded to Natalia León's film, Como si la tierra se las hubiera tragado, with original music by .Diego Ayala Raffalli.

A short French film awarded two prizes

On the feature film side, it’s the movie We Believe You by Arnaud Dufeys and Charlotte Devillers that won the Best Film award. Peacock by Austrian director and screenwriter Bernhard Wenger, on the other hand, was honored with the Best Direction award. Jérôme Rebotier, Emma Luchini, and Raphaël Balboni were the jurors.

In addition to Natalia León's film, six other short films have been awarded by Benjamin Bonnet, Clémentine Charuel, Erwann Chandon, and Agnès Patron. Rhubarb Rhubarb from British filmmaker Kate McMullen has particularly received the Best Fiction prize. Shivtown won the Mathieu Hoche Award for Best Documentary, and the Best Animated Film prize goes to Poxo Peanuts by Belgian Étienne Grignon. The Maritima TV Award "Med in Doc" was granted to the short film The Weight of Light by Anna Hints. The film The One Who Knows by Eglė Davidavičė has also received the Short Film Corner Grant. Two awards were given to the French film The young Sofiane by Fabien Ara won the Cinézik award for Best Original Music in a French short film, along with the Audience Award. The film Cassandre by Hélène Martin was also part of the competition and hit theaters on April 3rd. Oxana, the latest film by Charlène Favier—notably known for Slalom—was also presented during the preview as a Favorite. It will be released in theaters on April 16th!
