In derbies, there are goals, yellow cards, chants… and then there's Philippe Délage, a cheese maker by profession and a true Stéphanian to the core. On Saturday morning, in his shop, he makes a bold promise as daring as an all-terrain press: "If the Greens beat Lyon, on Tuesday I’ll give away all the quenelles." The crowd laughs, even the most passionate supporters can’t believe it for a second. Since 2019, victory has slipped away from them like a poorly controlled ball. But then, on Sunday, the unthinkable happens: Sainté triumphs over Lyon. And Philippe, being the good sport and life lover that he is, keeps his word.

Free quenelles for everyone!

On Tuesday morning, the smell of béchamel fills the air in Sainté. On the stand, the quenelles are lined up, ready to be devoured. And devoured they are, eagerly, by customers excited to mix their football fervor with delicious treats. Philippe, wearing a green jersey, is glowing. The shop turns into a fan zone, without the smoke bombs but with plenty of joy.

quenelles to your heart's content. And you don't even need to be subscribed to Le Chaudron to enjoy them: even those who are allergic to football showed up just for the laughs... and the food.

That's the magic of derbies: turning a simple victory into a collective celebration. And for once, we Lyonnais had to swallow our pride, served up as a free quenelle. In Sainté, we might not have the millions, but we've got spirit. And a cheesemonger who never backs down from a challenge.
