TUESDAY DECEMBER 5

A spectacular 3-hour journey from Lyon

The adventure begins in Lyon, as we board a train to Geneva. The ride lasts about two hours, and we admire the passing scenery from the train window. Upon arrival in Geneva, we change trains to Martigny, in Switzerland. Then, a taxi is waiting to take us to Courmayeur, Italy. The driver is friendly and tells us stories about the region, its history, and its nature. He mentions that we will soon pass through the Great St. Bernard Tunnel, connecting Switzerland to Italy. After 20 minutes, we exit the tunnel and are welcomed by Italy. The contrast is amazing: clear blue skies, radiant sun, and majestic mountains. The sight of Mont Blanc towering above us is truly awe-inspiring!

Restaurant №1: La Terrazza

La Terrazza is a charming restaurant located in the heart of Courmayeur, near the Saint-Pantaléon church and the guides' museum. It's the first restaurant we visit when we arrive in Courmayeur. Offering local and authentic cuisine made from regional ingredients, La Terrazza also features a terrace with stunning views of the mountains and the picturesque village. The menu highlights four dishes that change according to the seasons and ingredient availability. Start your meal with a refreshing salad with burrata and tomatoes, a delightful combination of fresh cheese and cream. Then, enjoy crespelle, savory crepes filled with ham and fontina cheese, a rich and flavorful soft cheese. For the main course, try the eggplant ravioli with malt and parmesan, a delicious baked pasta dish. Finish off your dining experience with a delicious cannolo filled with ricotta, a dessert made of fried dough and sweet cheese. We highly recommend La Terrazza for those who want to discover the delicious flavors of the Val d'Aosta region in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

Let's spread happiness and joy everywhere we go! Let's choose kindness and positivity in every situation. Smile at strangers, laugh with friends, and spread love to all. Life is too short to be anything but happy. So let's make the most of every moment and fill our hearts with joy. Remember, happiness is contagious - so let's infect the world with our positive energy!

The city center of Courmayeur

After a yummy lunch, we decided to check out this adorable village that we've never been to before! The city center is like the lively heart of Courmayeur, brimming with history and culture. It's a quaint pedestrian zone, bustling with shops, cafes, and significant landmarks. You can stroll around at your own pace, do a little shopping, or kick back on a terrace at one of the cozy bars. The main street, Via Roma, is adorned with elegant historic buildings that showcase the traditional architecture of the area, with stone facades, wooden balconies, and slate roofs. Our next stop is the Saint Pantaleon church, an impressive monument in the city center with its tall bell tower and intricate Baroque decorations that speak to the prosperity and devotion of the community. And let's not forget about the Guide Museum, a must-see for visitors. Thoughts of mountain adventures and escapades in the Alps are already getting us excited. Our journey is just beginning, and the real excitement is still to come! (But we're already feeling butterflies in our stomach with anticipation).

Let's spread happiness and positivity wherever we go! Life is beautiful, so let's make the most of it. Don't forget to smile and enjoy the journey. Have a wonderful day! 😊🌈✨

Restaurant n°2: La Sapinière

And now, let's chat about our second spot to eat: La Sapinière! It's a cute brasserie nestled in the Gran Baita hotel, where we're staying (perfect for a short stumble back after a couple of drinks!). The vibe is cozy and inviting, with a lovely chalet-style setting. La Sapinière serves up tasty regional dishes, like bagna caoda, an anchovy and fontina cheese fondue with fresh veggies (honestly, our favorite dish of the trip!), or polenta with a flavorful game meat sauce... Let me tell you, we were full to the brim after all that - the portions here are definitely generous!

Welcome to our happy website!

WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6th

Courmayeur Ski Resort

On Wednesday morning (as well as Thursday morning), we wake up early because we're going skiing in Courmayeur. Okay, we're not very good on skis, but after all, it's the perfect opportunity for us to improve and have fun, right? We meet the instructor who will guide us (big shoutout to Alex, the best instructor ever!!), and he tells us that Courmayeur's ski area is beautiful and offers breathtaking views of Mont Blanc (oh, and a little detail, everyone in Courmayeur speaks French because it's their second language that they learn during their education, how wonderful!). So, back to the ski resort: there are 33 slopes for all levels, with two connected slopes: Plan Chécrouit and Val Vény. We take the cable car that takes us to the starting point...It's tracks. We are impressed by the landscape that opens up to us, Mont Blanc stands majestically before us... Ahlala if you are a ski lover, you will love it, believe me!

Restaurant n°3: The Wobbly Castle

After a fun morning of skiing, it's finally time to eat (phew, all that exercise really builds up an appetite...). So we decide to stop at a mountain restaurant called The Wobbly Castle. It's a cozy and welcoming place, just the kind we love! The menu offers a variety of polenta, soup, and meat dishes. For starters, we indulged in a spinach and fontina flan, followed by asparagus ravioli for the main course. No dessert this time, because as we mentioned earlier: the portions are... generous!

The Agricole du Mont Blanc Company

We're taking a break from the slopes to visit the charming Agricole du Mont Blanc Company in Courmayeur. This family-run farm specializes in all things goat cheese: from creamy yogurts and refreshing ice creams to aromatic thyme and spicy chili-infused cheeses. They also offer a selection of goat's tomme, goat cheese logs, and even fluffy goat foam! Even if you're not a fan of goat cheese, you might be pleasantly surprised by the smooth and delicious flavors here. And if you're a wine lover, don't miss out on their blanc de prié, a unique grape variety exclusive to the region. The Millery-Bovard family produces over 140,000 bottles of wine annually, and they also produce sparkling wines at the Skyway (but more on that later!). In addition to their culinary delights, they've recently expanded into goat's milk cosmetics. The "Miage" brand features fragrant incense sticks, luxurious face creams, and nourishing body lotions. It's a true feast for the senses at the Agricole du Mont Blanc Company!

Restaurant #4: L'Ermitage

Let's end the day with our fourth restaurant: L'Ermitage, a gastronomic restaurant located in the hotel of the same name, near Courmayeur's city center. It's a classy and sophisticated place that greets you in an alpine-style atmosphere. The menu changes regularly based on the chef's creativity. During our visit, we savored smoked ham with potatoes and fontina cheese (a must!), followed by the restaurant's signature dish: the Hermitage soup, a delightful blend of black bread, fontina cheese (yes, that heavenly cheese again), broth, and spinach. As for the wine selection, L'Ermitage offers a wide variety of regional and international wines to complement your meal.

So, next time you're in Courmayeur, make sure to visit L'Ermitage for a truly memorable dining experience!

THURSDAY 7th DECEMBER

Restaurant n°5: La Chaumière

After our second morning of skiing, it's time to try out another restaurant in the resort, and what a restaurant it is: La Chaumière! One of the most beautiful views of the mountains throughout the entire stay ohlala: we literally eat facing the mountains! For starters, we order homemade bread petals with alpine butter and anchovies, for the main course, we treat ourselves to a kind of Italian-style cordon bleu, with the famous fontina cheese inside (if you still haven't realized that fontina is THE cheese par excellence in Courmayeur, there's nothing more we can do for you...)

Happy Thursday everyone, time for good food and great views!

The Alpine Guides Museum in Courmayeur

Our day on the slopes ended with an unexpected twist as we embarked on a visit to the Alpine Guides Museum in Courmayeur. This charming little museum is a treasure trove of mountaineering history, dedicated to the courageous local guides. Stroll through and you'll find artifacts, photos, documents, and trophies telling the tales of these adventurous souls. Keep an eye out for one of the very first ice axes crafted by the Grivel family, pioneers of mountaineering equipment from Courmayeur since 1818. It's heartwarming to know that their legacy still thrives in the town. The museum also recounts the legendary first ascent of Mont Blanc in 1786 by Courmayeur guides Jacques Balmat and Michel Paccard. It's a true gem in the region, showcasing the rich mountaineering heritage of this area.

What a delightful and captivating discovery we made! Hello there! How are you today? I hope you're doing well and having a great day. Let's spread some positivity and joy wherever we go. Remember to smile and keep a positive attitude. Have a wonderful day! 😊🌟

Restaurant n°6: L’Auberge de la Maison

It's our last night and therefore our last dinner in Courmayeur (we almost have tears in our eyes), and tonight, we're going all out! We were able to try one of the most upscale restaurants in Courmayeur: L’Auberge de la Maison (also known as L’Aubergine). This restaurant with refined and elegant decor offers very heavy dishes as they say! With a breathtaking decor (we still can't get over it), you really feel privileged when you come to eat there. And for our last night, we treat ourselves: starter, first course, second course, and dessert, we really indulged ourselves! Pumpkin flan with Fontina mousse, veal with Madeira sauce and mushrooms, salmon fillet, charcuterie plate, goat cheese tartine, ravioli, the list goes on! To finish off (or at least finish us off) we indulge in a cheese platter that introduces us to local varieties: Aosta blue, alpine Fontina, seasonal Fontina, goat cheese tomme, and Gressoney tome - absolutely delicious... For dessert, we go all out: we order the gourmet sundae.

Oh, what a delicious treat to end the night!the night! Our culinary journey in Courmayeur! 🍽️

FRIDAY DECEMBER 8

The Skyway Monte Bianco

On Friday morning, we are finally going to experience the Skyway Monte Bianco (we've been so excited about it)! This cable car ride takes us up to Pointe Helbronner, at an impressive 3,466 meters above sea level, where we can admire the breathtaking views of Mont Blanc from every direction. Stepping into the cabin, which fits up to 80 people and is completely quiet, we are surrounded by panoramic windows that offer a 360-degree view of the stunning landscape. The cabin even has a rotating system, allowing us to take in all the different perspectives of Mont Blanc...

Enjoy the ride and take lots of pictures of the majestic Mont Blanc! It's going to be an unforgettable experience. Let's soak in the beauty of nature and create lasting memories on this amazing journey.

Restaurant n°7 (the last): Alpino

After soaking in the breathtaking view from Pointe Helbronner, we made our way to the Alpino restaurant at the Pavillon station. This spot is truly special, offering a buffet of hot and cold dishes served in sealed jars. It's super easy - just choose a jar, warm it up, and savor your meal. Our selections included lasagna, truffle fontina cheese fondue, crespelles, and a divine panna cotta for dessert (we might need a miracle to still squeeze into our swimsuits this summer). Energized by our tasty meal, we said goodbye to the Pavillon station and journeyed back to Lyon, where our taxi awaited... #Sadness #Nostalgia

. . . . . .

Anyway, we hope that this has made you want to visit this lovely Italian resort, because all we want is to go back there!!
