The most panoramic: Jardin des Curiosités
A grassy esplanade with an incredible view that justifies all the craziness. Nestled near Fourvière, this garden is a favorite among knowledgeable Lyon residents. Taking a look at the fantastic panorama that this spot offers of the city, it's easy to understand why! The best part: sitting on one of the charming little benches facing the view... There's no doubt, this is one of the best green spaces for a picnic with friends.
The most famous: Parc de la Tête d'Or
Not the most original choice, but we always end up laying there at the slightest ray of sunshine. Parc de la Tête d'Or is Lyon's all-risk insurance! On the menu: water points, vast green spaces, and tons of animals to admire. No matter how hard we look, we still struggle to find a more peaceful and exotic spot than La Tête d'Or.
The artsy one: Jardin du Musée des Beaux-Arts
.
The Garden of the Museum of Fine Arts is a haven of peace in the heart of the city. You will be amazed by the sculptures surrounding a majestic artwork topped with a statue of Apollo. And to add to our pleasure: we are surrounded by the thick walls of a very ancient abbey. Our favorite spot in the center!
The most spectacular: Esplanade des Chartreux
.
Let's head to the famous Pentes de la Croix-Rousse to discover this marvel created by one of the founding brothers of the Parc de la Tête d'Or (impressive, isn't it?). Amidst the cedars, statues, and monuments, this space will make you want to spread out your checkered picnic blanket and admire the stunning view of the Saône River and the Fourvière hill.
The obvious choice: Berges de Saône Confluence
Why make things complicated when we have the chance to have an entire neighborhood dedicated to relaxation by the banks of the Saône? Confluence is an invitation to relaxation with family or friends along the endless and green banks of the river. Well-maintained lawns, exotic pontoons, and calming shores are all strong points that make this place absolutely essential for a picnic. Our advice: sit on one of the patches of grass located between the innovative buildings of the neighborhood and the Saône river banks. A perfect compromise between the city and the countryside.
