Welcome to the "green lungs" of Lyon! Wide gardens, zoo, green corners, lakes, and flamboyant floral collections...In Parc de la Tête d'Or, the possibilities are endless and totally free. Proof that going green is priceless.
The most spectacular: Fourvière Hill
Walking up the hill of Fourvière and admiring its magnificent views and the imposing Basilica of Notre Dame de Fourvière is a must. Whether on foot (for the more athletic) or by funicular (for the lazier ones), climbing the slope overlooking Lyon is a must-do. For an even crazier experience, we recommend visiting on a Sunday during a mass. Don't miss the Esplanade de Fourvière, on the left side of the Basilica, and the small garden that surrounds it.
The most historical: the traboules of Old Lyon
.
Discover the history of silk production by visiting the Old Lyon neighborhood. Follow the "traboules". These covered passages function as public corridors through neighborhoods of private houses that were used by silk workers to transport their fabrics. Visit the old ancestral shops and let yourself be guided by the words of the merchants who are always delighted to share their knowledge of the city.
Our selection of the most beautiful traboules in Lyon
The most authentic: Croix-Rousse (and its slopes)
We continue with the traboules of Croix-Rousse. Not so long ago (XIXth century), the slopes of Croix-Rousse were an important weaving center. Our ultimate advice is to forget your Guides du Routard and smartphones and get lost in the narrow and steep streets in search of architectural curiosities.
The most contemporary: the Confluence district
The ultra-modern corner of Lyon. Between the Rhône and Saône rivers, Confluence offers a technological panorama with unprecedented and innovative architecture. With numerous original and futuristic buildings, Confluence also boasts a beautiful view of the city. And to stay in shape between visits, the neighborhood has plenty of parks and very nice gardens.
The most ancient: LUGDUNUM museum and Roman theater
We then dive into the great history of Lyon. Every first Sunday of the month, the Gallo-Roman Museum offers completely free access to visitors. A unique opportunity to educate yourself and shine in society without having to spend a single penny. Isn't that beautiful?
The coolest part: trompe-l'oeil and street art
.
Capital of trompe-l'oeil, Lyon is a real open-air museum. Among the many hidden murals in all corners of the city, some stand out. This is notably the case of the famous Fresco of the Lyonnais on Quai Saint-Vincent, the Wall of the Canuts located in Croix-Rousse, and the Etats-Unis neighborhood where nearly 25 murals pay tribute to the work of the Lyon architect Tony Garnier. Otherwise, every street and alley offers beautiful graffiti and street art. A delight for arty souls.

The most charming: the Marché de la Création
.
An outdoor "Art Gallery." This is how the Marché de la Création is often described. Extremely popular and very representative of Lyon's art scene, this market located on the banks of the Saône river, on the Vieux Lyon side, takes place every Sunday morning. A feast for the eyes and the senses.
The most gourmet: Les Halles de Lyon
World capital of gastronomy, Lyon had to have a building worthy of its reputation. The Halles Paul Bocuse, a true temple of French cuisine, is a love letter to food. We love strolling through the long aisles lined with appetizing stands. Walking around is free, but we challenge you to leave empty-handed... Good luck!
