Also known as the International Center for Infectiology Research (CIRI), this lab specializes in the study of highly pathogenic viruses such as Ebola, Nipah, and Zika. Equipped with the latest technologies in biological safety to ensure the protection of researchers and the public. The P4 Laboratory is classified as a level 4 containment facility, the highest level of security for the handling of dangerous microorganisms. Only a few facilities of this kind exist in Europe, and the Gerland laboratory is the only one in France. In addition to conducting research on viruses, this unique location also works closely with Lyon hospitals to prevent and combat epidemics, including developing treatments and vaccines.

The P4 Laboratory is therefore a key player in the fight against infectious diseases in France and worldwide. And yet, few Lyonnais are aware of the existence of this cutting-edge laboratory nestled in the heart of the Gerland district.
