This news says a lot about the current state of gastronomy, even in Lyon, the self-proclaimed capital of good eating. Peruvian chef Carlos Camino, a unique figure in Lyon's culinary scene, has just initiated bankruptcy proceedings for his Michelin-starred restaurant Miraflores, located on the Boulevard des Belges. This decision was quietly announced in a legal publication in mid-March 2025, but it resonates strongly in a sector that is facing many challenges.

Yet, Carlos Camino's story in Lyon has all the makings of a culinary fairy tale. Arriving in 2013 with his suitcases full of Andean flavors, he earned a Michelin star in 2017 at his first restaurant on Rue Garibaldi. In 2020, he aimed higher, moving to Boulevard des Belges and sharing the address between the elegance of Miraflores and the festive energy of Yka, his ceviche and cocktail bar.
A niche audience and a wise decision
But even stars have to grapple with economic realities. Covid, rising costs, repayment of the PGE (state-guaranteed loan), and dwindling visitors gradually put pressure on the Camino establishment. The chef admits: his unconventional and unique cuisine attracts a specific audience, but not necessarily in large numbers.

The recovery procedure is all about giving the establishment a little breathing room to regain its balance. Nothing changes for the customers: Miraflores stays true to its star-studded DNA, Yka continues to sway to the rhythm of ceviches and cocktails, and Carlos Camino remains at the helm, determined to keep the adventure going. It's clear that even when the seas get rough, a good captain stays the course.
