Can you feel that sweet scent of scandals? Though proclaimed the world capital of gastronomy, Lyon doesn't seem to have unanimous support, especially from the editorial team of the British magazine Time Out. Every year, this renowned publication releases its ranking of the best cities for food, and the 2025 edition brings some surprises.
While Paris earns an honorable 9th place, Lyon is simply absent from the list. A slap in the face for the city of Paul Bocuse, long considered the Holy Grail for food lovers. Time Out does praise the culinary vibrancy of the French capital, even if it points out that prices in Parisian restaurants are considered a bit too high.
New Orleans at the top of global gastronomy
So, who takes the crown this year? It’s New Orleans that shines as the best gastronomic city in the world!2025. A choice that can be explained by the richness and diversity of its cuisine, a clever blend of French, Spanish, Vietnamese, and African influences. A true culinary melting pot that seems to have won over the experts of the magazine.
On the podium, Bangkok and its legendary street food takes the 2nd place, while Medellín, in Colombia, surprises everyone with its vibrant and innovative cuisine, showcasing local ingredients and South American influences. The rest of the top 10 holds some gems, including Madrid, Lagos, Shanghai, and Jakarta, destinations where culinary culture is an integral part of the city's DNA.
So, is Lyon losing its charm or just overlooked by Time Out this year ? Either way, this ranking has plenty to ponder.nibble at a few teeth among the purists of French gastronomy.
