It's impossible to talk about Lyon's great brasseries without mentioning the Grand Café des Négociants. A year after being taken over by the Lonobile family, this iconic establishment on the Presqu'île is launching a major renovation project. Good news: the restaurant will remain open all summer long and promises an exciting comeback filled with new surprises.

A terrace transformed into an urban oasis in the heart of Lyon

It's the most spectacular transformation of this renovation: the terrace at the Grand Café des Négociants is about to get a complete makeover. Say goodbye to the glass panels and teak platform that have occupied Place Francisque-Régaud until now. The goal is to restore space and lightness to this must-visit destination on the Presqu'île.

Instead, visitors will discover a decor inspired by Paris's most beautiful bistros, featuring marble-topped round tables, rattan furniture, and lush greenery throughout. The result promises a true breath of fresh air right in the heart of the city—perfect for making the most of sunny days while preserving the historic charm of the place.

A modernized interior without compromising its historic soul

Inside, there's no question of stripping away what has made the Grand Café des Négociants famous for over a century. The stunning moldings, period woodwork, enormous mirrors, and all the elegance of the Second Empire style will be carefully preserved.

The work will focus mainly on a subtle refresh of the spaces by replacing certain fabrics and materials. A way to modernize the ambiance while

respecting the architectural heritage that makes this brewery one of the most beautiful in Lyon.

A revamped menu and a fresh start filled with celebration

The changes aren't just about the décor. Since the Lonobile family, founders of Casa Nobile, took over the establishment, the menu has been gradually evolving with the arrival of major houses

lyonnaise brands like Bonnard or Sibilia, not to mention the famous handmade ravioli from Casa Nobile. A new chef is also expected to arrive in the fall to continue this upward trajectory.

And here's more good news: unlike previous years, the Grand Café des Négociants won't close completely in August. The establishment will continue welcoming guests from Tuesday to Saturday throughout the renovation work. A new chapter is being written for this Lyonnaise institution, which aims to blend tradition, modernity, and the Lyon way of life.
