A grand finale for one of the most beautiful culinary stories in Lyon. Chef Bernard Mariller, a humble yet highly respected figure in Lyon's culinary scene and the star chef of the Gourmet de Sèze, announced this Sunday, July 20, that he will retire in July 2025. A gentle exit for someone who, with great humility, set up his kitchen at 125 rue de Sèze back in 1991. Since then, he has served nearly 300,000 meals, always with the same dedication, the same passion, and that special touch of soul that earned him the highest recognition from the Michelin guide in 2002: a star maintained continuously for 23 years.

An institution as discreet as it is essential

In a message filled with emotion and elegance, the chef reflects on a life "made of passion, sacrifices, discipline, and dedicated time". Trained by the very best—Chavent, Lameloise, Troisgros, Robuchon—Bernard Mariller has created a restaurant that mirrors his essence: discreet, refined, and profoundly human. He pays tribute to his loved ones, especially his wife and children, Pauline and Clément, who are also immersed in the world of deliciousness with their establishment “Mariller, dream pastry chef”.

Two Young Chefs to Take Up the Torch

But fear not, lovers of fine dining, the curtains won't close for long on 125 rue de Sèze. Two passionate young chefs will take up the torch to create a Lyonnaise brasserie, true to the spirit of the place. A seamless handover, a nod to the decades spent championing the taste of authenticity and the nobility of the craft. Bernard Mariller may step back, yes, but his legacy will remain firmly rooted in the walls.
