It’s news that got guacamole lovers and fans of Latin vibes buzzing: The restaurant announced its permanent closure this Thursday, May 8, on Instagram, with a message as warm as its last habanero pepper. “After 13 years of an extraordinary adventure…” you can read, followed by a heartfelt declaration of gratitude to its loyal customers. And loyal they were! Families, students, and local workers all on the hunt for their dose of sunshine and spices made in Mexico.

Located in the Confluence business and leisure hub, GoMex was a pioneer of Mexican street food in Lyon, long before tacos al pastor became the hot trend. The adventure was launched by Enrique Gómez Moro, a cooking enthusiast and passionate transmitter of flavors, who created a friendly spot where people came as much for the dishes as for the atmosphere. A no-frills place, but filled with taste and heart, that made its mark in the city.

If the Confluence location closes, the one in Lyon 1st remains!

Fortunately, all is not lost: the Cantina GoMex, perched in the hills of Croix-Rousse at 16 rue des Capucins, continues to delight the people of Lyon. It was here, by the way, that the team signed the largest burrito in France in 2022 – distributing 350 portions to passersby, in a true spirit of sharing. A nod to their Generous, festive, and sincere DNA.

So yes, we might shed a tear passing by the now-empty storefront of Confluence… but we already know where to go for comfort. Thank you GoMex, and see you soon in the slopes!
