Every year, the capital of gastronomy (Lyon, of course) hosts the international competition that awards the best cheeses and dairy products in the world. The 4th edition took place on Friday, November 24th at the Cité Internationale. And the prize for the best cheese in the world in 2024 goes to the Maroilles AOP Gros from the Lesire & Roger cheese dairy, weighing a generous 750g, carefully aged between 30 days and 3 months. In a fierce competition where more than 1,700 products from 17 countries were in the running, the Maroilles from Axonais managed to stand out, captivating the discerning palates of the judges.

The grand celebration of cheeses from around the world

The Lyon competition not only celebrated French flavors, but also paid tribute to other cheese treasures from around the world. Among the notable winners were the Pecorino Cacio Pepe from Flli Petrucci SRL, named the best Italian cheese, and the Seriously Extra Mature Cheddar from Scpr ets Fromages et Terroirs, recognized as the best British cheese.

The adventure of Lesire & Roger cheese dairy dates back to 1923, and this recent recognition is just the latest in a long list of successes. On its website, the cheese dairy proudly recalls that it has already won a gold medal in Lyon at the 2023 International Competition, showcasing its Rollot. The Maroilles, on the other hand, had been honored twice with a medal at the General Agricultural Competition in Paris last February.

All that's left is for you to taste it to find out for yourself...
