By succeeding a pizzeria, "Made in Berliner" not only took over a location but also inherited a piece of Lyon heritage. This is because the address at 2 place Saint-Paul in Lyon 5th was once the home of Laurent Mourguet, the famous creator of the Guignol puppet, who lived there between 1795 and 1832. It's no wonder that the opening caused a stir on social media. However, as the manager Pacha Kostik humorously stated, "it's better to have a thriving establishment in the neighborhood than a constantly closed venue." And judging by the warm reception from the neighbors, it seems the gamble has paid off.

"We haven't touched the structure and caused no damage"

And rest assured, heritage defenders: the layout of the place has been designed to respect the soul of the old building. "We only did some refreshing and dressing up, like varnished wood or a vegetal wall to add a design. We haven't touched the structure and caused no damage," explains Pacha.

Beyond serving delicious kebabs, Made in Berliner is a meeting place between history and modernity. Many tourists come in, attracted by the commemorative plaque of Laurent Mourguet and by the historical wells visible inside the restaurant. It's this unique atmosphere that also attracts an older clientele, proof that kebabs can transcend generations.

French meat and bakery bread

At Made in Berliner, human interaction is favored: no flashy menu photos or ordering kiosks. "We are not a snack" insists Pacha. 100% French meat, custom-made bread by a local baker, and fresh vegetables prepared twice a day are evidence of a commitment to quality.

To continue honoring the memory of the former occupant of the premises, Pacha is considering big projects: a robotic Guignol cutting a kebab spit or, if that proves impossible, an artistic representation of the character on a canvas. An original and respectful way to connect the past and the present.
