This ultra-exclusive distinction confirms the special status of this Lyonnaise venue, which was already listed in 2025 in the highly selective 50 Best Discovery, a showcase for the most innovative places on the planet. A decor designed like a journey between past and future
At Abstract, the architecture transports us even before the first cocktail arrives. The place plays a rare tune by marrying two worlds that seem completely opposite... yet they work together beautifully. On one side, there’s a bistro bathed in golden light, with retro vibes that borrow from American diners and the Nighthawks aesthetic of Edward Hopper. On the other side, behind a custom glass partition, there’s a laboratory-distillery with brutalist lines, where raw stainless steel and scientific precision take center stage.

Seating designed like a diner, vintage furniture from the 1960s and 1970s, a geometric bar under a suspended ceiling: at Abstract, everything is crafted to create a warm and nostalgic atmosphere. Natural light flows through large bay windows, giving rise to that famous "golden aura" celebrated by The World’s 50 Best Bars. Even the word "tobacco", still visible on the corner facade, serves as a charming nod to the past of the 1980s.

When Science Elevates Taste
Behind the glass, it’s all about precision and innovation. The laboratory embodies the DNA of Abstract: a cutting-edge distillery where the famous Monochromes are born, spirits distilled under vacuum from a single ingredient. Lemon, raspberry, butter, or pepper are crafted at low temperatures to capture the perfect aromatic moment. It’s a nearly scientific approach but deeply poetic, making Abstract one of the few bars in the world that produces all of its spirits in-house.

With this distinction, Abstract joins an ultra-prestigious international shortlist. Bangkok, Hong Kong, New York, Dubai, Prague, or Melbourne: the design world is now also looking towards Lyon. And honestly, we’re not going to pretend to be surprised.
