Lyon has officially won the global gold medal for wired internet speed. According to the latest Speedtest ranking, the capital of the Gauls outshines giants like Abu Dhabi, Beijing, and Los Angeles with an impressive average download speed of 347.52 Mbps. A performance that almost makes you forget about the Fourvière tunnel during rush hour...
France, an excellent student… in wired internet
The city shines with its digital efficiency, proving that it’s not just about traffic jams, delicious food, and traboules. With start-ups, data centers, and well-pulled fiber, Lyon establishes itself as a global reference for urban connectivity. Even better: Lyon shows that speed doesn’t always have to rhyme with Asian megacity or petrodollars.

On a great note for France! It's climbing up to the third spot on the global podium. With an average wired speed of 319.43 Mbps, it's only outpaced by Singapore and Hong Kong, two ultra-connected powerhouses. What a lovely surprise in a country still facing many blank spots! Despite the forgotten Wi-Fi in the countryside and villages, France is making a difference in densely populated areas, proving that its fiber strategy is starting to pay off (a little).
Mobile: where the challenges still lie
On the mobile front, France still has work to do. The country ranks only 22nd worldwide in mobile speeds, quite far behind the leaders. And when it comes to cities, the top performer is Paris!
s… which ranks at 35th place. Not exactly what 4G story addicts dream of. A mobile performance that's a bit lackluster shows that the network remains uneven, especially once you leave the big cities. But if Lyon can lead the way for wired connections, why not hope for a comeback in mobile in the years to come ?
