A record first round for the legislative elections
Voter turnout in the Rhône department was exceptional this year, with a participation rate of 71.65%, as confirmed by Actu Lyon. Unlike the national trend, the New Popular Front (NFP) dominated the first round in the department, especially in the town of Vaulx-en-Velin and in the 2nd constituency of the Rhône. This town in the Lyon metropolis, the fourth largest city in terms of population, showed strong support for the left.
RN struggling in Vaulx-en-Velin and in the 2nd constituency
In Vaulx-en-Velin, the National Rally only received 17.79% of the votes, coming in second place, far behind the NFP. The LFI candidate Abdelkader Lahmar overwhelmingly dominated with 65.02% of the votes. This strong preference for the left contributed to.rave; making Vaulx-en-Velin the town in the Rhône region that voted the least for the RN."
In the 2nd district of the Rhône, the RN also had difficulties in attracting voters. Boris Tavernier, candidate of the NFP, came very close to being elected in the first round with 49.65% of the votes, while RN candidate Anaëlle Bisleau only received 14.30%, failing to qualify for the second round. This district, encompassing the 1st and 4th arrondissements as well as part of the 2nd and 9th arrondissements of Lyon, offered the RN its lowest score in the department with 8,228 votes.
A crucial second round ahead
With 2,256 votes out of 25,100 registered voters and 12,908 voters in Vaulx-en-Velin, the RN shows a low score in this city. The RN candidate Cédric Pignal, nevertheless qualified for the second round, will try to turn the tide on July 7th. The left, represented by the NFP, still remains the top contender to continue dominating this region.
The 2024 legislative elections show a distinct electoral dynamic in the Rhône, especially with a strongResistance to the National Rally in Vaulx-en-Velin. The city stands out as a bastion of the left, confirming a trend where the NFP prevails over the far right and the presidential camp.
